Lulu Kitchen

When it comes to “best of” restaurants in Hilton Head, the same spots consistently make the list…and they have since I was a child. (Alexander’s, anyone?) That’s what makes Lulu Kitchen such a great addition. I believe it’s billed as a new American restaurant, but it feels Italian-skewing with a Southern flair. That may sound confusing, but bottom line is that it’s all fresh ingredients and the dishes come together nicely.

We got a round of starters for the table: burrata (with grilled peaches, prosciutto, and a port wine reduction), grilled octopus (with fried chickpeas crispy chorizo, piquillo peppers, and romesco sauce), and the seafood salad (scallops, shrimp, lobster, crab, and a light citrus dressing). All winners, truly. The seafood salad was like getting a mini seafood tower…except with some fixins…and not insanely priced.

For entrées, Albert got the scallops (with bacon leek Israeli couscous and asparagus), Mark got the lobster ravioli, Allison got the crab crusted sea bass, and I got the tagliatelle with shrimp. We all thoroughly enjoyed our selections, and I was happy to see that even the richer dishes weren’t overwhelmingly dense.

The staff is attentive, the food fresh, and the setting laid back. It perfectly walks the line of sophisticated but chill, which is exactly what I want at an island restaurant.
